won't play sound

• Mar 30, 2012 - 05:54

this problem literally started ten minutes ago. I was about to start a new score and I was inputting notes and I realized that there was no sound. I have the "enable sound while editing" button on, but when i looked at the top of the window that button along with the "play", "rewind to start position", "enable MIDI input", and "play repeats on/off" buttons are greyed out. I've already tried going to "Display" and unchecking "Transport", then rechecking it. I have also already gone to "Edit", Properties, and gone to "I/O" and hit "OK" without making any changes and closing and restarting Musescore, as the handbook said to do. any help would be appreciated, because I have no idea what to do about it.

Which version of MuseScore are you using ? On which OS (Windows, Mac, Linux) ?
Is Display -> Synthesizer also disabled?

Can you attach a screenshot of Edit -> Preferences -> I/O ?

when this problem occurred i was using 1.1, i thern downloaded 1.2 hoping it would fix the problem, but to no avail. yesterday the problem seemed to fix itself and was fine until a few minutes ago and the same problem is occurring. my OS is windows and the synthesizer button was greyed out. i just reopened it and it seemed to fix itself again, so I'm assuming it's just a temoprary bug

I have had a similar problem. The play button was greying out, the play panel would not pop up and even the sound would disappear. It happened with both v1.1 and v1.2. I tried everything suggested above but nothing helped. I'm running a Mac OSX 10.7.3

I'm pretty confident that the problem relates to my Logitec Z-5 speakers. The problem only appears when I select these speakers from System Preferences. But not always. The problem never appears when I select the internal speakers.

The Logitec Z-5 speakers always work well for other apps, eg. Youtube, but not for Musecore. "Z-5 Remote Control Issues" seems to be a known problem (http://forums.logitech.com/t5/USB-Speakers-READ-ONLY-ARCHIVE/Z-5-Remote…)
