Clefs

• Apr 21, 2012 - 00:26

I would like to propose the option of having a purely aesthetic clef option. Now allow me to explain:

I'm using the merlin_gold soundfont for something, and it has a nice "reverse cymbal" and "Roland Gong" sounds. I put them on a "Percussion 3" staff, but I cannot use a percussion clef because that changes it to a drumset and invalidates the sounds, so I have a percussion staff with a treble clef (which looks silly). Another example is the Baritone Treble Clef. I am forced to use the Treble Clef 8vb, which is not how it should be.

TL;DR: I need to use certain clefs without it affecting the score. Any thoughts?

You do know you can edit and save a drumset and then load it in next time you want to use those percussion sounds?

That will enable you to use any percussion staff with the merlin_gold soundfont.

If you're not sure how to do that see my Tutorial on the subject: http://www.organspider.me.uk/MuseScoreTut.html

I'm not sure why you need to use the Treble 8va clef with the Baritone? The transposition of all staves is configurable from the Stave Properties dialogue.

I think you misunderstood what I meant about the percussion clef. They are not drumsets. The sounds are not drum sounds—they are just sound samples that came with the soundfont (like the clarinet, for example). I cannot put them on a percussion staff; it has to be a treble clef, though I would like it to show as a percussion clef.

If I understand you correctly, you want to create a drumset with drumset clef and percussion but then you want that percussion to sound like something else? If so, create the percussion piece, Right-click on the first measure and choose Stave Properties then change the instrument.

If, on the other hand, you want to show a treble clef but have it sound like drums then start by using any instrument that uses the treble clef (e.g. an oboe) then Right-click, change the instrument to. e.g., Snare Drum

To change the appearance of the note heads, select the ones you want to change, Right-click, select Note Properties and change Note Head Group to Cross.

If this doesn't answer your question then I'm afraid I have not understood it.
