Add a caesura (railroad tracks). This won't change playback, but you can work around that. Click on the measure with the fermata, go to Measure Properties (or something like that—I don't have the program opened presently), add one beat to the actual something-or-whatever, not nominal (or more/fewer if you want). Leave it a rest and set it invisible.

You can also add a (slower) tempo text at this point and another just after (at the right tempo) and set them invisible.
