G.M. Asola, Madrigali a 2, in canone (1587)

• Aug 4, 2012 - 17:45

This is a first beta of a modern performing edition of the Madrigali a due voci, accommodati da cantar in fuga sopra una parte sola ("2-voice madrigals set to be song in fugue (= canon) from a single part") by G.M. Asola (1532-1609) as published by G. Vincenzi in Venice (1587).

As the title says, the original print contains only one part, the second being derived from it according to title clues and added symbols.

This file contains the first 5 pieces out of the whole set of 36 and keeps the original clefs (work is not really finished and collation / proof reading is easier with the same clefs).

The complete score, with a short preface and a critical apparatus, in original and modern clefs versions, will be posted to my early music site .

I have tried an extensive application of ficta, probably too extensive for our modern ears, but I believe I can justify any and each of them. Comments are welcome!!

Thanks,

M.
