• Sep 5, 2012 - 22:02

Hey, Im new to musescore and I was wondering how I can change the key in my piece to something else? While Im here Im trying to use musescore to write heavy metal music, what key exactly would I need to use for that? thanks!

That depends on how you create your score.

To set the key signature of a piece when you create it using the Wizard, see the Create New Score page of the handbook.

To set the key signature of a piece later, see the Key signature page of the handbook.

then you will need to use the Transpose feature to get the notes that you wish to be in the different key correct.

For the "heavy metal key" Google somethng like "key of heavy metal music" for some info. It seems that F# is a popular key but there is no rule that it has to be in any particular key.

Heavy metal doesn't often have just one key.

Mind you, with the jaunty little F Major bit in the middle, does this count as Heavy Metal?

Play your tune, write it note by note and then see what key sig. best fits the sharps and flats. Changing key between verse and chorus is one way of injecting a bit of interest into a song.
