Tempo markings
I would like to have a quarter note (the symbol for this) = 30 sign at the beginning of my score and other similar signs throughout the piece but I can't work out how to do it. If I use F2 I don't get the symbol palette, it just affects whether the internet works or not.

You have to be in note entry mode, I believe.
Select the note where you want the tempo marking to appear. Go to Create -> text -> tempo, choose any tempo and press OK. Double click the newly added text to edit it. In the bottom left corner there is a an icon of a keyboard in the text toolbar, click on it, click on the quarter note symbol and close the dialog. F2 is a shortcut to access this dialog with you are editing a text. It looks like you computer use F2 for something else...
