MIDI out per part/track

• Nov 7, 2012 - 10:28

Hello! Is it possible to create a new feature for MuseScore that would be to have an option for separate MIDI outs per tracks so that one could connect them to their respective tracks in the preffered DAW. For example, in the score I've created piano, bass and drum parts, which through JACK would go into their respective track in Ardour.

Now, I don't know anything about programming and developing software, so this maybe sounds dumb, but I guess that all of the tracks/parts that you create in MuseScore go to the internal synth or so. So, can this internal synth be bypassed or something like that, or even make a new, DAW version of MuseScore, that would be very useful to composers that prefer to compose using notation instead of the piano roll? That version would produce no sound by itself. In order to be audible, it would have to be connected to a sequencer, that is, it would be used solely as an external MIDI editor. Just a thought.

Thank you!

In next version it will be possible to save each staff in a different MIDI file quite easily. With File -> Parts and File -> Export Parts. But I guess it's not what you are after after reading http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10241 (thanks for the kind words btw:)

MuseScore supports JACK output, there is a tutorial here that could help you http://musescore.org/en/node/13319
The main issue will be that if MuseScore support several Jack ports, it pushes in each jack port the full MIDI stream, so all the tracks on each port. Currently you can use a MIDI filter after Jack and before your DAW. There is an open issue #9813: Jack MIDI port for each instrument where you can find some information, in particular qmidiroute, in your repository if you are on ubuntu, is given as a good filter/router.
