Instrument errors when exporting MIDI

• Jan 25, 2013 - 01:43

Hi everyone... I'm using Musescore 1.2 (Windows 8) and am trying to export a score to a MIDI to then import into a sequencer, but when it exports the MIDI file, it's changing many of the instruments -- several of them are being changed to organ, and the percussion tracks aren't being assigned channel 10. I tried changing them back in the sequencer, but every time I change them, when I play it back in the sequencer they're reverted back to the incorrect instruments. There might be a way to look for an event that is making the change in the sequencer but I haven't figured out how to find that yet. Either way, when I play the MIDI in a different program such as Media Player Classic, the voices are definitely the incorrect ones, so the error doesn't appear to be with the sequencer.

Any thoughts as to what might be causing this, and if there is some sort of workaround? Thanks!

First of all, can you attach the files? Both the generated MIDI file and the MuseScore file it is generated from.

MuseScore allocates instruments based on what is set in the mixer on a per channel basis.

I suspect that MuseScore exports a program change message at the start of each MIDI track in the generated SMF.

Unless you are using a non standard soundfont then these program change messages should be GM compatible.

If you can attach the files I can inspect them to find out what may be going wrong.
