Prelude - A Japanese Cowboy In Paris (Piano Solo)

• Mar 2, 2013 - 22:21

My first score written with 'Musescore'. I often follow this piece with a Gymnopedie that I wrote separately.

The original of this song was all on the white keys and was called "A Japanese Cowboy in Texas' (this was my piano teacher's remark when I first played it for him); I added a strategically placed sharp in a few places to give it a bit of a Frecnh Impressionist glow. ;-)

Consider posting your score as a MuseScore file since this is a MuseScore forum and your score will otherwise only really resonate with pianists and those who can sight-read.

Hello,

I'm glad to hear that you like this piece & enjoy listening to it even though you must only be hearing a MIDI version. I'll be posting the Gymnopodie as a separate thread shortly; in the meantime, here is a link to a performance of 'Japanese Cowboy' (should be better than the MIDI as it's played on a Bosendorfer. ;-) :-) ).

Let's see if I can upload an MP3....no I can't.... but here's a link to another site where I have the MP3 posted (along with the Gymnopodie & some others). :-)

I heard the YourTub version of this.

The ending. I wasn't sure what to do with it at first. It was so different from the rest of the harmony. Then you had it sound again, just as dissonant. So, I'm trying to figure out what to do with this chord, and before I get too far, you resolve the dissonance / ambiguity with the final chord. I liked it, though I didn't see it coming at all.

I liked the rest of it. Definitely fit the nature scenes. I think the "feel" created by those images is closer to what's happening in the song than your instructor's (albeit interesting) title.
