Beaming algorithm in odd meters

I've started a transcription in 5/4 and it seems that musescore is beaming my quarter notes together. It seems in 4/4 the default beaming would be that each quarter note is separate. Or a group of notes take one quarter note space (like 2 8th notes) would be beamed together.

In my 5/4 example, not only is the whole bar beamed together, but it appears to beam across bar lines! I'm sure this is not the default intended behavior. Does this have something to do with the odd meter or am I missing something basic ?

It's probably due to the odd meter. MuseScore 1.3 doesn't let you customize the grouping for the whole score so you will need to override it manually. See Beam
