Better tuplet input
The current implementation works pretty well if you are just entering the odd tuplet in a measure.
I have just been inputting a Rheinberger Organ Sonata movement into MuseScore (1.3) which has an extremely intensive triplets section as part of the exposition of the 2nd subject.
Entering this has thrown up a number of weaknesses in the present system, and turned into rather a frustrating process.
Firstly every time you wish to tie a note to a triplet or the end of a triplet to the next you discover that creating the set of triplet rests nerfs the ability to add the tie during note entry mode.
Secondly, you are obliged to start a new triplet at each beat, thus interrupting the flow of the music in your head as you write or transcribe.
What I would like to see is the ability to indicate to MuseScore that you want to carry on entering triplets until you tell it to stop, and also to be able to enter a tie without having to leave note entry mode during triplet input.
It would also be handy to enter other kinds of tuplets this way, but in the music I work with it is triplets 9 times out of ten.
Would this be possible without having to rewrite the whole tuplet entry code?
Comments
I certainly support this.
The support for that should be very large
Agreed. I've been working on a guitar transcription of Bach's Preulio VI in D minor, which is pretty much 16th note triplets throughout. Having to re-enter tuplet mode for each group really breaks the flow of the work. It is a little confusing that it is necessary to enter the value of the completed tuplet, rather than the value of the notes IN the tuplet. For example, to input eighth note triplets, you select the quarter note value. I am sure there is a good reason for this, and yes this is something that you can get used to, but it is confusing nonetheless.
Cheers,
Tom

Though I agree that it's a good idea, I just want to bring up that you can get quintuplets/sextuplets/septuplets and on and on it goes. Keeping track of those notes may get a bit confusing.

Yes, really the tuplet input mode is one of the only weak points as of now in think. I've also had long scores full of triplets, very exhausting to write in this way.
I'll suggest an obvious solution:
On the top panel, on the right of the rhythm panel: have an on/off button for tuplet mode, followed on its right by a combo box saying [ you choose a number] "within" [and you choose global duration value here] We continue to change the rhythm within this duration in the current way with the buttons on its left or the numbers on the keyboard. This makes it very straightforward and clear.
So, if you're writing eighth notes and suddenly want to start writing triplets, just toggle on the tuplet mode, make sure the combo box says (for ex) 3 within a quarter note, and continue writing normally your triplet eighth notes, in a triplet scheme as long as the button's on.
Of course, the current way (select 4th note value, then ctrl+3) can be kept along for usage when triplet is exceptional.
Do you developers already plan out something like this ?
