Portamento / Pitch bend

• Dec 27, 2013 - 01:49

I would like to request a not slide feature (if one does not already exist) whereby pitch-bend can be used to join two notes e.g. using the synthesizer instrument / Jazz Guitar / Violin.

As far as I remember (and cannot find with a search), MIDI continuous controllers are not supported in MS. As the main purpose of MS is producing notation rather than as a performance device, it may be some time before this is possible, although, you never know, if some programmer wants to step up ....?

Regards,

Actually the pitch bend controller is not the way to go here as it must be returned to zero, thus creating a slide the other way.

The way to go when the programming team are able to address this playback issue would be to implement the portamento controller.

Just saying :)

It is quite right that portamento would be best implemented properly or a generalized continuous controller would even better but you mustn’t always expect other people to do everything for you. Do it yourself can be a reasonable approach.

The image shows a number of portamentos and the mp3 shows that they are quite convincing up to 6 semitones, but even the octave is better than the alternative of a staircase or nothing. In the attached score the notes for the portamento are muted and the (invisible) bent notes are in voice 2.

However, it currently depends much on instrument you use, there is a problem with many instruments as they chirp when they are bent (https://musescore.org/en/node/96651)
Don’t we all :)

If I can find a work-around for the chirping, I might just get around to trying to automate this.
