Can't input chords via MIDI controller, why?

• Apr 17, 2014 - 18:50

Whenever I try to input notes via my MIDI controller (Korg microKey25), I can't manage chords - just single notes. I either arpeggio chords or enter singly by mouse or keyboard. Most of the time it's ok that way as I can't figure notes out at such a speed as I need a MIDI for. But occasionally I do come up with phrases that are easier to input via MIDI.

I asked Korg about this and they say this controller should work fine inputting chords and Musescire might need adjustment and advised me to try on Garageband - a software I can do nothing with. Also I tested with Finale and Sibelius and it does work, that is I can hear and enter chords.

So, here I am asking some Musescorer to guide me through this predicament. I really appreciate.

Currently MuseScore is limited to entering single notes from a MIDI keyboard.

The program is really designed to be operated from a computer keyboard, and there is actually very little advantage in using a MIDI keyboard for note input.

I'm not sure why there is this limitation, but I suspect it is because there is noone on the programming team who understands the nuts and bolts of MIDI well enough to implement it.

IMO it would be a very useful addition to MuseScore, so please feel free to open a Feature request for this.

And I agree with you - Garageband is useless for producing notation.

Now, I see the reason why. Thank you so much for letting me know. Yes, I agree a MIDI keyboard helps little except when trying key modulations. Well, I'm sticking to Musescore anyway, so might as well get hold of an extra mini-keyboard to cover its shortcomings. Oh, much as I wish to I have no idea how to "open a feature request". Kindly guide me how - thanks.

Pls. download the midi router software.
so that you could input chords immediately.
