Piano chord MIDI input results in extra Eb-1 note in chord.

New to MuseScore. Using a MAC. Experimenting with MIDI input from my piano. Currently when I hit multiple notes simultaneously (chord), one extra e-flat 2 octaves below A0 is added to the chord.

Single notes work as expected, only chords behave strange.

Symptom looks like my Alesis DG8 keyboard adds an extra note, but when use the MAC MIDI Monitor program, the only puzzle I see is that for each note I hit, I see an "Invalid" message composed of 3 bytes: 03 09 04. I don't know what this is.

When hitting a single note, I see this same "Invalid" message, but single notes transcribe correctly, so I don't know if this message has anything to do with the extra note added when creating a chord.

Any ideas what might be causing the addition of the extra note?

BTW, in the end, I think this turned out to be a problem with using an old MIDI to USB cable from Sanoxy. It is plug and play and I think the driver was old and incompatible with my MAC OS 10.13.2. I bought a new cable and things have improved.
