Entering/Editing Jazz Drums

Hi,

On a drumset instrument, I'm having trouble entering slashes (and rests) in the middle of the staff with drum hits above the staff.

I've read the handbook section on entering multiple Voices (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/voices), and the Howto section on creating jazz drum notation (https://musescore.org/en/node/70431). Tho I've tried to follow these instructions exactly, I must be missing or misreading some detail because I'm not getting the results described. Are there any supplemental docs, tutorials, or video walk-throughs that cover this subject? Anyone have any tips on how to get this to actually work?
