Rests and notes on the same beat/count

I am attempting to transpose and edit two pieces of music for the piano that involves rests and notes being on the same beat/count as each other. I have not been able to find how to notate this in Musescore without it removing the note or removing the rest so that only one is shown. I am also at a loss on how to have two notes of different value on the same beat/count because the same thing will occur. Is this even possible with Musescore?
