Is there a way to change the color of ledger lines, but not the staff?

• Dec 4, 2018 - 16:50

I am creating some theory worksheets where I would like to provide notes in a light grey for students to trace as they practice writing notes. For notes above and below the staff, I want them to write or trace the ledger lines as well. I can change the color of the note but not, it seems, the ledger lines. Is there a way to do this? It makes logical sense that the software would think of ledger lines as interrupted parts of the staff, so I understand why it works the way it does, but I was wondering if someone has some clever work-around (preferably in musescore, rather than taking an image to other software, etc.). Thanks!

Indeed, so one can change the staff to whatever color the ledger lines should be. Then overlay the colored staff lines with black lines.
I have to make this quick, so in 3 steps.
BTW: I'm assuming you wish to change the ledger lines to light grey (as you do to the notes).

Step 1:
You say you can change the color of the notes. OK.
In my image below, for the gray note color value, I used 154 for each R,G,B (red, green, blue). These values are set in the Inspector (as you know)..

Step 2:
For better contrast, in measure properties, I changed the staff to green, so it is much easier to see when the staff lines are covered..
Default staff line thickness is 0.08sp, so that's the thickness you cover them with.

Step 3:
For the final staff color, hence the ledger lines, I set the same gray value as the notes in step 1.

See image below:

Any additional notes entered will keep the grey color for ledger lines.
Regards.
