Distorted score playback on Ubuntu Studio 16.04 [SOLVED]

• Jan 25, 2019 - 21:44

I managed to execute MuseScore v3.0.1 AppImage in Ubuntu Studio Linux 16.04. Everything displayed OK on screen. However, when I opened all three demo files, the playback sound was very distorted. Sounded dreadful. So I had a look in:

Edit > Preferences > I/O tab

Pulse Audio was selected. I tried selecting ALSA Audio, clicked Apply and OK. I closed Preferences down and playback was still exactly the same.

I still had MuseScore v2.0.2 installed on my system and I knew it played back perfectly. So, I opened it up. I checked Edit > Preferences > I/O and saw that ALSA Audio was selected. I was puzzled for a moment until I spotted the bright red text at the bottom of the page saying that MuseScore needs to be restarted after any changes on the I/O page. Problem solved!

Unfortunately, the red text is missing from v3.0.1. May I suggest that it is included to help other users in the same predicament?

Many, many thanks for all your hard work MuseSore devs and other helpers and volunteers. Superb job!
