Playback stutters with different soundfont

Files created in Musescore 2 using a different soundfont have a stuttered playback when opened in Musescore 3. The parts do not play in time with the metronome or with each other and stutter randomly. The problem seems to be worse in more rhythmically active sections, or when there are multiple parts playing different rhythms.

The stuttered playback is corrected if I switch the soundfont to the default Musescore soundfont.

This problem does not occur when I write a new piece originating in Musescore 3 with my preferred soundfont.
The soundfont I use is synthgms2.sf2
