Keyboard Shortcuts not working?

Many keyboard shortcuts suddenly have stopped working. Pressing 'N' doesn't put me in note input mode, the numbers don't change the note values, pressing letters doesn't put notes up, and the arrow keys don't raise or lower selected pitches. What is going on? I've tried restarting MuseScore, and the shortcuts the handbook says to use haven't changed.

The problem could be caused by the language setting be assured to choose English and not another native language this was the problem in my case
