MusicScore3 on Mac: Note Input Not Working

Hello. I'm using a Mac laptop with the correct OS and trying to enter notes on the staff using Note Input. The preview is working but when I click on the staff to enter the note, it doesn't work, i.e. the note does not stay on the staff. I tried reverting to factory settings and also downloading the latest version. Neither worked.
