How do I make the pedal span over a bar?

I'm writing a piece for solo piano and voice and I need the pedal to sustain for two bars, however, the little red circle is stuck at the end of the second bar and clicking on it deselects the pedal. How do I get it to move to the following bar?

2 ways:

  1. double click the pedal, use shift/arrow to move the selected part in the direction you wish.
  2. before you add the pedal, select the start point and shift/select the end point and double click the pedal in the palette.
