Default vertical positioning of slurs (note-head side versus beam side)

• Dec 28, 2019 - 17:58

This may be a mere personal preference, but after looking through published scores and using MuseScore, it seems to me that the gap between a slur and a beam of notes ought to be ever so slightly diminished. In otherwords, it seems to me that the amount of space between a slur and a beam ought to be consistent with the amount of space between a slur and a note-head.

An image showing two notes slurred on both sides, plus beamed versions (kinda large zooming but gets the point across):

Is there a strict reason for the variation of spacing between the slurs of the beams as opposed to the spacing of slurs on the note-side? Merely using my eyes and attempting to make the gap-space be equivalent, the result looks just slightly better imo:

And of course it's subtle in the sense that there's barely a difference, but there is. I wonder if anyone has some leads as to the reason for the slightly larger spacing of slurs on beam-side, or if their opinion clashes or agrees with mine, etc, and if it's feasible that the default positioning could in the future be changed to make more equivalent gaps on both 'sides' of notes, or if it will stay the way it is no matter what?
