I think the OP may want a slur but has actually used the tie button or shortcut.
To clarify: slurs always join notes; ties only work with notes of the same pitch.
- To enter a slur (between notes of different pitch) highlight the first note and press s.
- To enter a tie (between notes of the same pitch) highlight the first note and press +
