add instruments for a third movement

• Apr 18, 2020 - 15:30

Hi
Is it possible to add instruments to my score after a section break for a final movement without affecting the rest of my score. 'Hide empty staves' function was useless and so i had to proceed without. How can I add the instruments while remaining on the same file?
Many thanks

I'm sorry but it is not clear from that score what the problem is. But I see that you have set "Hide when empty" to "Always" for violin II and timps. If you want to see those instruments in the next movement you will have to temporarily set them to "auto" with "hide empty staves" unticked in the Format>Style>Score dialogue (as you currently have it) or "never" as new systems will always have empty staves which you have specified to be hidden and you can't add notes to hidden staves. Or, if you want to add different instruments, then add them in the usual way and set hide when empty after you have written what you want for that next movement.

Or perhaps you want something else to happen. If so, come back here with a bit more explanation of what it is you are having difficulty with.

That hide empty staves function which you seemingly found to be useless is exactly the function one would need here to make an instrument only show up for a part of a score though...

Not knowing exactly what you want, here's your score with banjo and acoustic guitar added after the last section break:

As mentioned above, please be more precise on what you are doing and what you expect to happen.
For instance, explain exactly what you perceive to be the problem with 'Hide empty staves'.
Also, why did you set some staves to always hide when empty by using Staff/Part Properties?
