Can't get D.S. al Coda to work

• Jun 15, 2020 - 13:55

I can't get Musescore to playback as I would like. I've enclosed the file. This is what I'm trying to do:

  • On completing the 3rd volta, return to the Segno, play to the 4th volta and skip to the Coda.

At this point I can't get it to return to the Segno. I've changed the "play count" but that hasn't fixed it. There may be further issues but I haven't been able to test since the D.S. al Segno is not working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MuseScore can't understand that roadmap currently. As jumping (following the D.S.) is interpreted as "going back" to when the sign was encountered, the playback after the jump would still be considered the 3rd playback, and not the 4th.

The good news is that I believe the implementation I'm currently working on should be able to understand this better (or at least be made to work).
The bad news is that I likely won't be able to fix it and retest enough to have it included in the next update.

I would indeed expect a human being to play this back as intended. It's just that MuseScore has had some issues with determining what the "last repeat/final playthrough" of a measure should be when taking a jump.

I do wonder why you have measure 13-15 in there though; as from how I understand it those never would be played back at all. If the intent is to create some kind of spacing before the coda, consider using a horizontal frame instead.
