Score playback

Appreciative Musescore user (and contributor) for several years. Last December we moved from Windows 7 to Linux Mint Mate 19.2. I'm finding that there is often some additional non-musical noise or static in chords when playing back a score. I know the computer hardware is not at fault because it will play orchestral music from other sources perfectly, as it has all along.

This never came up when running Musescore on Win7. Could there be a software glitch in the current Musescore3 variant for Linux?
