Can Musescore play a pdf?
I've downloaded some pdf files from IMSLP. I thought there might be an alternative to transcribing what I want to hear.

The File>import function of Musescore uses an old version of Audiveris (Audiveris 4), as far as I know. (Maybe someone can confirm this?)
So if you want the best results, you should install Audiveris on your computer and use it as a seperate program.

Didn't know you were using Linux. It seems on Linux you have to build it yourself using the instructions on this page:
