quartoles (?) in Brouwer's Elogio de la danza

• Sep 23, 2020 - 20:27

Hi all,
Is it possible to write the highlighted bar in Musescore 3? I was playing around with entering n-toles but I don't seem to get there.
The duration of each group of four 16th should be equal to the duration of a group of 3 8th in the bar above.

I tried entering 12 eights rests, select one, add n-tole with ratio 4 to 3, but Musescore says it can't do that for an eights note. If I enter a dotted 4th, select it and add an n-tole with ratio 4 to 1 it produces a quartole for the 4th only. I hope this doesn't sound too confusing.
Any ideas?
Many thanks!

  1. A dotted 1/4 to start from
  2. Select the first one
  3. Add → Tuplets → Other...
  4. Ratio 4/6, no number, no bracket. Press OK
  5. Esc out of note input mode
  6. Hold Shift and press the right arrow 3 times, so the first tuplet is entirely selected
  7. Press "R" twice
  8. Right arrow, now make sure the selected rest gets a dotted 1/4th duration
  9. Add → Tuplets → Other...
  10. Ratio 5/6, number & bracket. Press OK

Ratio is always how much to write of the type of how much would normally fit in that duration.
So for those first tuplets the ratio is 4:6 because we want to end up with 4 notes written with the duration of the note that would otherwise fit 6 times into the selected duration. (normally 6 1/16ths fit into a dotted 1/4th)
