Avoid stretching final system

• Nov 17, 2020 - 17:09

I know it is possible to end a score with a system that stops partway across the page (as opposed to stretching the last few measures into a visually displeasing mess), but I can't find it in the handbook or my online lessons. I've looked everywhere I can think. Please remind me how to do this.

See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/layout-and-formatting#style-page and scroll down to "Last system fill threshold"

Another way to avoid over-stretching the measures in the last system but which allows the system to fill the page width is to add a system break a few measures before the end of the penultimate system. This may give a wider spacing on that penultimate system, so do the same on the system before that and work backwards moving measures to the following system until you are pleased with the result.
