Right now the method you describe is kinda a wonky on MacOS MS3.5.2. Sometimes it works. Under certain unknown circumstances produces no visible results. In other situations it only pastes as I'd expect, but sometimes only once—then I have to copy again before pasting on the next note. And if the destination note has an existing lyric paste doesn't replace; rather I get two overlapping lyrics.
I haven't been able to fully characterize this yet. Maybe later today.
I switched to the other pc, 3.6beta on Linux Mint. It works as described above. Ctrl+C only works once. After the Del the note remains highlighted and allows Ctrl+V.

Click Lyric1->Ctrl+C;
Click Lyric2->Del;
Ctrl+V.

Double Click Lyric1 (text selection), Ctrl+C;
Select the rest measure 4, Ctrl+L;
Ctrl+V.
