Repeat bars don't work (MuseScore 3.6.1 Score Editor)

I've been working on a few songs and found that repeat bars help in decreasing the number of measures while still having the melody remain the same. The issue is, the repeat bars don't work and the software plays through the piece as if there isn't a repeat bar there. I have encountered this numerous times, and I even uninstalled and reinstalled MuseScore to see if anything would change—it didn't. For some reason, scores on the website that use repeat bars are recognized and followed, but repeat bars in the score maker are ignored. If anyone has encountered this issue and has managed to fix it, don't hesitate to reach out. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
