SVG Issue

• Feb 7, 2021 - 01:39

Hello. I tried to post this over a week ago. When I clicked Save, the site said something like it would appear after approval. I don't see any messages or information about it, so I'm posting it a 2nd time.

I created an SVG file from this site: https://fingering.bretpimentel.com/ When I open it in a browser it looks fine. I dragged and dropped it onto a note in musescore and it no longer looks right.

Attached is the sample SVG file, a sample score with it in it, and screenshots of what it should look like in a browser and what it looks file for me in musescore.

OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.6.1.515740707, revision: d0fc8e9

Your file looks perfect in musescore. I downloaded Inkscape, but I'm not able to get your result. I opened the original in Inkscape, then saved it with a different name. When I dragged it into musescore, it has the same issue as the original svg. Did you do anything else in Inkscape besides opening and saving? My Inkscape-altered file is attached.

Hm, you're right. I had changed the fill of the circles to a different color to try and visualize what was going on better in MS, which is when I noticed that the new version worked fine, so I just changed them back to the original colors. The issue is that now that I'm trying to reproduce it, I can't seem to get it to work again. I'll do some more experimenting and see if I can come up with any specific steps.

Figured it out. It wasn't the fill that changed things, I accidentally moved everything over slightly. If you open the original file, select everything (click on one of the circles with the normal cursor), then move it around slightly on the canvas it works. I'm no master of vector graphics, but my best guess would be that somehow the coordinates for some of the nodes are abnormal and MS doesn't render them properly. Opening the file in another program with vector capabilities (Clip Studio Paint) gives similar results to MS.

That's how it looks in CSP. Similar to MS it's a squiggly mess, so I guess the original file is somehow incompatible with how these applications draw SVGs, but not web browsers or Inkscape.

Just to follow up - Bret replied to me that unclicking "Optimize Image" creates a file that imports into Musescore well. I've verified that. He tried to reply here, but his reply is stuck in moderation, just as my original was. He mentioned that the a future version of his site won't have the issue for "optimized" files.
