shortcut R - repeat w/ merge?

Hello! Recently updated to 3.6.2 and I'm not sure if this was the behaviour before, but it feels is has changed - keyboard shortcut R - repeats the selected bars, right? Let's say bars 1 and 2. But now when there is something written in bars 3 and 4 the material gets merged not overwritten as I believe it worked before.
So is there an option to choose between "repeat and merge" and "repeat and overwrite"?

Update: alright - that's the case only if bars 1 and 2 have one voice and bars 3 and 4 have two voices - only voice 1 gets repeated and voice 2 does not get overwritten by empty information from previous bars. I've never realised this before - could be useful, though...
