Chords and chord entry.

Hello all. I have been trying for a few days to find out how to do what seems like a simple task. A measure begins with treble C and E on the same beat. The E is a half note with the stem up (tied to a later E in the measure.) The C is a quarter note stem down. That's it. So far, no luck.
Very perplexed. Thanks

Thank you so much. Had no idea this involved "voices". I am copying a standard piece of music and to me it was just thumb on the C and 2nd or 3rd finger on E on a keyboard. Will have to brush up on "voices". Was able to enter it right away using the 2nd voice#. Still a lot to learn.
