A New Tuplet Feature?

• Mar 18, 2021 - 00:10

Hello,

I am a first time poster so sorry if this is not in the appropriate place. I am wondering if there is any possibility to have tuplets displayed as shown in the image below. If not, Is it possible that I could make a plugin that adds this feature? How might I go about learning to do that?

-I have also looked to see if there were any plugins offering this feature now but have not had any luck. For context, I work as a copyist for a new music composer that uses a lot of polyrhythms/tuplets. Musescore has done an amazing job serving me so far but this is the one feature is one I have not seen/am hoping to see someday OR learn to make myself. I don't expect the developers to change this for me as it is not commonly used but I was just hoping to hear some thoughts on what the possible path forward would be.

Edit: I realized I forgot to describe the tuplet feature so here it goes:

Instead of showing the ratio for 5:2 or 5:4, The feature would display the specific note duration that the tuplet is based in. like 5:(Half Note).

The benefit of this, in my opinion, is that it is much more clear to the performer. (especially when these types of rhythms are being used constantly).

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there is a way for a tuplet to automatically do this. However, there is a workaround to get it the way you want it to be displayed.

1). Create your desired tuplet (not as a ratio, but just the number)

2). Open master palette (View, master palette)

3). Select the note duration of the tuplet (symbols, individual notes)

4). Add the colon (symbols, repeats) [you can also add staff or system text]

5). Drag everything to the place you want.

It's not quick or pretty, but that's the only way I know how to get what you want. I've never seen this kind of notation, but I can't imagine it would be very hard for them to add a feature like this.

Alternatively, for a much more precise option, you could go to Inspector and get rid of the number on the tuplet (Inspector > Number type: [None]) and add staff text in its place (Palette > Text > Staff Text) and type "5 : ", for the half note, press F2 and select the symbol.
