5/8 measures

• Mar 24, 2021 - 16:08

Good afternoon,
I am writing a piece in Musescore, whith a part in 5/8 measure.
It is for Alto-Saxophone and Piano.
The piano plays a rythm of 2 and 3, and sometimes also 3 and 2
Therefore I made 2 different measures.
Difficullty is that the soloist has to play the opposite of the piano. When the piano plays 2 and 3, the alto-saxophone must play 3 and 2, and so on.
Within 1 sysem I cannot use different measures for solo and piano, as the instruments are in 1 system.

Is there a possibility to solve this problem?

I assume you want the beaming to be 3+2 in some measures and 2+3 in others. You can modify the beaming to be what ever you want independently in each measure and in each stave.

See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/beams#change-note-beaming
and https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/beams#beam-icons

I think I would start by setting up the beaming on the 5/8 time signature to beam everything and then break the continuous beam on 2 or 3 as required.

If you want something different please attach a score and perhaps a sketch of what you want it to look like.
