Invisible Voice 1 Rests for Grand Staff Instruments

• Mar 29, 2021 - 05:30

Hello!

I have been using MuseScore to write parts for instruments (specifically mallets/marimba) that include a grand staff. When writing for notes crossing both the bass and treble clef, there's an easy and incredibly useful shortcut that allows you to do that (control+ shift+ up/down). However, when I use this method to get running lines to run between both clefs in the same measure, there are still rests in the measure I'm moving to that clutter up the measure, and very often run into the actual notes I'm trying to notate. The flexibility of being able to do this makes it easier for the player to understand implied phrasing with multiple melodies, or distinguish a bassline that's moving into the treble clef from a bassline passing off into the melody.

I think this is due to the fact that, (1) the actual notes that I'm moving to the other clef still are technically housed in the previous one, and (2) voice 1 rests cannot be deleted in MuseScore, only moved around on the lines. From what I can tell out of the manual and other form posts, this isn't currently a feature (as of 3.6.2). If I'm missing something here, please let me know. If not, consider this a feature request.

Below is an example of this voice rest not being present in published music, and an example of it in musescore.
