Was making a score until I came to the half-note at the beginning and it was connected.
For some reason, MuseScore did not want to connect them together and instead just left them separated.

Half notes are not normally connected. Perhaps you are looking at an "old style" tremolo.

That howto is obsolete now that old-style tremolo's are available as a style setting.
Added a note into the howto as well.

Oops! I should have read the How To. I assumed that the "Old Style" setting had been around for so long that the handbook and its linked How Tos would have caught up by now. Moral: Never assume.
