Hide empty staves + dotted slur

I would like to hide the empty staves of the hymn I am transcribing. At the time I chose "Hide empty staves" from the style/page menu there was a rest in the 2nd measure. I assume that is why that staff did not disappear. I have since deleted the rests and keep trying to make it go away, but so far unsuccessful.

I would like to use a dotted slur where the text is treated differently on different verses. Is there one?

1] Format >Style >Score
Untick "Don't hide empty staves in first system"

2] Click on a slur, go into Inspector and choose "Dotted" from Line Type.
