Playback mode refuses to work upon return to .mscz

Hello...
I am using MuseScore 3.6.3.248021803, Revision 3224f34 on Windows 10. The API: MME. Device selected is Realtek High Definition, native to my laptop, an Acer Aspire. When I first create a .mscz file, the playback works just fine. However, upon returning to it, it does not work at all. I tried all the suggestions posted in the troubleshooting documentation, but to no avail. When attempting to access the Advanced settings for my sound device, I find that there is no such option to choose Advanced settings in the first place. I am currently stymied. It was frustrating enough to learn how to use the most basic functions of this software, and now this. Your assistance is greatly appreciated here.
