How to add more beats than the time signature allows

• Oct 4, 2021 - 16:20

Okay, so I'm a fan of the movie Phantom of the Paradise. I found a song book online with sheet music for the songs which appear in the movie.

In order to get a better understanding of the music and how to play it I've been recreating some of the songs in MuseScore. I've ran into a problem where some of the pieces show as having more beats in a bar than the time signature allows.

How do I go about doing this in Musescore? I'm new to music so any advise would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks

None of the pieces have more beats per bar than the signature - as far as I could see. That would not make much sense anyway.

You might be confused because some notes are in different voices, and it can look like there are more beats, but the beats of every voice individually add up correctly.

Ah, you're right. From the way it looks, I would assume it's a printing error - that the eights of "wiser you just" should be 16th notes instead.

In the unlikely case that it does actually sound as written, you'd need to change the bar to 5/4. Either way, there has to be a printing mistake.
