creating tablature
i have imported a pdf of a violin piece. when i go to add instrument and add violin and select go it puts all my notes as rests. please help me turn my staff music into tablature.

So, if you have successfully imported the pdf into MuseScore, you should have a MuseScore .mscz file displaying the violin notes in a score - which can be edited and played back using the MuseScore software.
Any instruments you add will, of course, show rests in the staff. You must add the notes you want. If you add a trumpet, for example, you must add notes to get rid of the rests. If you add another violin, you must add notes to get rid of the rests.
Also, I don't quite understand why you are concerned with tablature for a fretless instrument like violin. Unless you meant: "...it puts all my notes as rests. please help me turn my staff music into notation".
