MIDI/Sound fonts

• Aug 13, 2022 - 21:32

Hello, I would like to know if there is a way to "manually" add (fill in with a computer keyboard stroke) sound fonts such as a drum or a hi hat, while playing a score. This feature is especially useful for circus music, such as:

During an acrobatic performance, for instance, there are interval silences (at random) where it is necessary to follow on, after the silence, with a drum or several hi hats. Or, to manually insert a sound during the score playing.
Can somebody help with this info? Thanks! Julian

Maybe this would be workable:

• Use side-by-side mode (or stacked mode) with 2 scores
• Score 1: Main score
• Score 2: A measure for each drum sound that you might use
• Size the 2 score windows to suit your needs

Then:

• Play score 1
• At an interval silence, pause score 1 using space-bar
• Click on a drum symbol in score 2 to play it. Repeat as required
• Resume score 1 when ready

If you know that a sequence of drum sounds is needed then they could be set up in measures but you might then need to add blank measures to give time to stop the playback before it continues into the next measure.

Use stave texts to title each measure for quick identification or insert an image that matches the drum sound in the measure.

Various options:

1) There are a few percussion sounds towards the end of MuseScore's built-in soundfont.

2) Download and install a drum soundfont from a reputable site.
There are a couple here: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/
and many here: https://www.polyphone-soundfonts.com/download-soundfonts/percussion/unp…

3) Check out MuseScore's Drumline extension - including functional pictograms. I have not used it myself but I'm sure that there would be forum support if you have questions.
