empty bars
When I extract the score for a solo instrument, I don't want i.e. 20 empty bars when it is not playing, but one bar with the number 20 in it. How do I do this?

Best way to "extract" an instrument from a score is by creating Parts:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/parts
Parts are set to show multi-measure rests by default.
