how can I make more space between systems
I'd like to add chord symbols to this tune so I need to have more space between systems. How can I move them farther apart?

If you just add your Chord Symbols, MuseScore will automatically make space for them, just like it made space in the measure when you entered your notes, or how it made space for those lines etc..

But if you for some reason then need even more additional space have a look at Format > Style > Page to increase the inter-system spacing settings.
