Edit Drumset; new instrument name, no sound

I've created an additional bass drum with the same setting as "Bass Drum 1" but with Default Voice: 1 , Stave line: 7 & Stem direction: Up but there seems to be no sound associated with the new drum either when entering the note or on playback. How can a sound be added?

You've defined your note on MIDI pitch 0, which is not defined within the General MIDI Percussion sound mapping. Hence MuseScore does not contain a playback sound for that pitch by default. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI#Percussion for a listing of default available definitions.
