Return key should confirm tempo
It is a knee jerk response for me, when entering data, to hit return to confirm and exit. There is no reason to add another line with return in a tempo box. You can't have two tempos, can you?

That would be unusual yes; but it's less unusual to see a multiline tempo word with added metronome clarification:
Although I agree that those are uncommon enough to perhaps have a normal Return act as "confirm and end editing" and use "Shift+Return" to insert a newline into the text for those occasions where required.
