A few playback and instrument issues

• Dec 17, 2022 - 02:21

Dynamics are a bit exaggerated. Something that's at a piano dynamic is basically muted at this point. I cannot hear the new trumpets and trombones and there's still no euphonium sound (which defaults to tuba and sounds terrible, so I use F horn instead.) Alto saxes are out of tune for some reason, like they were in the last version. But all the high woodwind sounds are amazing!

I play euphonium, and I honestly think Trombones a3 is better as a euphonium substitute if you're using the Muse Sounds Brass pack. The lack of euphonium is an old relic of MIDI not having one. It's immensely frustrating, but that's the unfortunate reality.

Agreed, I'm having the same problem; Particularly with the trombones, they are generally too quiet. The horns are also very geared towards orchestral writing, so it sounds weird when you hear the full forte "brassy sound" of a horn section in a piece written for brass quintet. Overall I am blown away by the playback revamp though!

i agree about the exaggerated dynamics, it feels like there's quite a few steps between p, mp, mf and f (which i would very much like to use if possible)

also while the woodwinds sound good but i'm having trouble balancing them for an orchestra so that they're audible without being piercing ! is anyone else having that trouble too ?

My only problem with the woodwinds is I can't get their articulations to work all the time, sometimes repeated notes just sound like they are sustained. Otherwise they are maybe a bit quiet when the full ensemble is playing unless they're written at a forte when other sections are at a mezzo forte.

Having a similar problem here, currently composing a piece for brass and piano. The whole brass section sounds way to quiet when playing forte in comparison to the piano

Glad I'm not the only one. The new sounds are fantastic, but there are tons of balancing issues that need to be worked out. Hopefully they're working on it. I'm trying to fix it with the mixer for now.
