Can we save 3.x templates in 4.x?

• Dec 25, 2022 - 18:52

I finally downloaded MS 4.0 and it looks awesome! After I'm done overeating later (Christmas) I plan to dig in and get some things done.

In 3.x I had a template I used for most things and tried just copying it into the new template folder. No dice, which makes sense now that I've noticed the templates look entirely different in 4.0. Before I risk breaking anything, is there a straightforward way to convert a 3.x template for use in 4.0?

I guess I need a little more context. What I have been able to do is save the 3.6.2 file as a 4.0 file. But I'd like to have it come up as an option on the Templates dialog when I start a new file. Here's what I've tried:

1) Saving it in the folder that contains the subfolders with built-in templates (C:\Program Files\MuseScore 4\templates)
2) creating a new subfolder "09-xxx" and putting it there
3) saving it in the existing "01-General" folder

No dice in any case. Maybe there's an extra step I've forgotten since I saved it as template in 3.6.2?
